INTERVIEW WITH BEBE KNIGHT
Bebe Knight is the author of the paranormal series, The Eternal Flame Books. She lives in Upstate NY with her husband and son. Writing has always been a part of her life whether it be books, plays, or handwritten letters to friends and family.
She graduated from SUNY Albany and holds a B.A. in Fine Arts and Art History. She is currently a member of the Romance Writers of America and has started working on the second book in this series. In her spare time, she also writes for her romance novel review blog at Reading Until I Fall Asleep
1. Do you plot your stories or wing it?
For the most part, I’m a plotter. I usually need to have a detailed outline of what I want to accomplish for every chapter in order to get the job done or else I will just blankly stare at the screen. That doesn’t mean unplanned things don’t creep in though. I’m not so strict on myself that I don’t allow for some ad libbing to happen. However, this current work in progress has been little difficult for me so I have tried keeping this one open by winging it and it has proven to help a lot.
2. Do you have a favorite place to work? Any writing rituals?
Because this current work in progress has been a lot harder to write than the last book, I’ve had to switch things up a bit. I find writing in a public setting like a diner or coffee house or park has made a world of difference for me. Especially this little diner in my town, Bob’s Diner. It’s the quintessential diner atmosphere with great coffee and tons of local gossip being exchanged. Normally that would be a distraction for me, but it’s just what I need for this book.
3. What’s your favorite aspect of your writing life? What’s your least favorite?
My favorite aspect has to be being able to express myself creatively. Being able to tell a story I have rolling around in my head and have other people not only read it, but actually like it; it’s very rewarding. Least favorite is marketing, hands down. I’m a very shy person and hate the spotlight so marketing myself has been a bumpy road, but I’m working on creating a positive balance.
4. Which of your books or characters is your favorite and why?
That would have to be Noel. He is a secondary character in An Element of Time who will eventually have his own HEA (happily ever after) in the Eternal Flame Series. I love when I get to work with him… and argue with him. He makes me laugh out loud at the things that he comes up with. He has the loudest mouth of all my characters and seems to talk to me the most. Does that make me sound crazy? All I know is that I can’t wait to write his book.
5. What’s next for you?
Right now I’m working on the second book in the Eternal Flame Series which deals with Michael and Maggie battling their demons. I’ve also found a co-writer for a YA Dramedy I’ve had a vision of for a couple of years now so I’m very excited to start working on that.
